Apple Carrot & Sweet Potato Puree

This Apple, Carrot and Sweet Potato Baby Food Puree is a fun and vibrant meal for your baby that is made with only 3 ingredients and in only 15 minutes! 


Nutritional Information

  • Good source of fiber, which benefits heart health and digestion. The pectin in apples is prebiotic, which is the food probiotics, or good bacteria in the gut, feed on. The soluble fiber apples contain helps with cholesterol levels. 
  • Carrots contain a ton of beta-carotene, the precursor to vitamin A, which is necessary for protecting eye health and immune function.
  • A great source of fiber that can prevent and resolve constipation.
  • Helps with hydration due to their high water content.
  • Good source of vitamin C, which helps with immunity.
  • The antioxidants in apples help with cancer prevention.

Apple Carrot & Sweet Potato Puree

 15 minutes
Servings: 25 ounces
Age: 7+ months 

Ingredients

  • 3 apples, cored, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1 sweet potato, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, peeled and roughly chopped

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 2 inches of water to a boil. In a steamer basket, add all of the ingredients, place the basket over boiling water, and cover. Steam for 12 minutes or until all ingredients are fork tender. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Reserve steamer water.
  2. Transfer all ingredients into a blender or food processor and puree on high for 1-2 minutes. Add the reserved steamer water, fresh breast milk or formula, in 1/4 cup increments, to get the puree to the right consistency. I had to add 3/4 cup of water to the puree above.
  3. Serve to baby or store for another meal. 

Notes

Age: 7+ months

Yield: roughly 25 ounces 

Notes on Adding in Spice: feel free to add in 1/2 tsp mild curry, 1/4 tsp cloves, 1/4 cinnamon, 1/4 tsp chopped fresh thyme, or1/4 tsp chopped fresh rosemary to this puree. 

Storage: Fridge – store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Freezer – can be frozen for up to 4 months.
