Pear Quinoa Cereal

Cook Time:
20-25 Minutes
Servings:
 8 small servings
Age:
 9+ months

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk or water (see notes below)
  • 1 cup quinoa, rinsed
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 pear, grated or finely chopped

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the milk or water to a soft boil over medium heat, stirring often. Place the quinoa and cinnamon in and turn the heat down to medium-low and cook for 20-35 minutes or until the quinoa is tender and there is just a little liquid left in the saucepan.
  2. Add in the pears, and stir. Let cool slightly.
  3. Serve some and save some for another meal.

Notes

Age: 9+ months, to serve to baby 6+ months leave the ingredients in bigger shapes so your baby can pick them up to eat.

Yield: 8 small portions

Storage: you can store this recipe in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Stage 3 Puree: for a smoother puree, you can blitz this in a blender or food processor for a few seconds to get a chunky puree.

Note on Liquid: for babies under a year, you can use all water or a mix of half milk and half water. For toddlers, you can use regular or any plant-based milk you prefer.

Oat Suggestions: if quinoa is a new food for your little one, you can mix 1/2 cup of quinoa and 1/2 cup of rolled (old-fashioned) oats into this recipe for a more oatmeal-like texture (this is how my kids prefer this recipe).
