Surprise! Oats for Baby + Toddler – Let’s kick that boring instant oatmeal up a notch by hiding your kiddo's favorite toppings underneath the cooked oats. Trust me – your toddler’s mind is about to be blown with this fun and super simple way of serving their breakfast oatmeal. Great warm breakfast for your baby, toddlers, kids, and even you;)

  • Oats are packed with many nutrients, including antioxidants, manganese, phosphorus, iron, and vitamin B1. 
  • They are also a great source of two different types of fiber, which help keep your little one's digestive tract going strong, help stabilize blood sugar, as well as support baby’s cardiovascular health.

Age: 12+ months 

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup instant oats
  • 1/3 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp topping of your choice (see below)
  • 2 tsp maple syrup, coconut sugar, or brown sugar (optional)
  • splash milk, or cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, stir together the oats, cinnamon, maple syrup (if using), and boiling water. Let sit for 2-3 minutes.
  2. In a kid-friendly bowl, add the toppings of your choice.
  3. Spoon the oatmeal on top of the toppings, completely covering the toppings. Sprinkle with a pinch of cinnamon, drizzle with a splash of milk or cream to cool it down, and serve.

Notes 

Toppings: craisins, raisins, chopped pecans, pomegranate seeds, hemp seeds, chopped almonds, coconut flakes, apple chunks, berries, pear chunks, mini chocolate chips, chopped berries, etc. Make sure to steam or chop the toppings to your baby's eating level. 

Other Oat Options: you can make this recipe with cooked old-fashion oats, steel-cut oats, or warmed quinoa cereal as well.
